The Practice

Ku Nye training engages in the theoretical and practical studies of Traditional Tibetan Medicine (TTM) and as mentioned belongs to the 4th category of treatment (diet, lifestyle, herbal medicine and external therapies). A fully qualified TTM Doctor is trained and competent in all four methodologies.

Ku Nye is taught over a three year period and is considered a full Diploma Course. A practitioner who has completed the three year Diploma is called a Ku Nye Kan.

During that three year period practitioners become qualified in the following areas:

  • 1st Year/ Level 1 The practitioner is competent in applying 1 – 2 hour relaxation Ku Nye massage.
  • 2nd Year/ Level 2 The practitioner is competent in relaxation/therapeutic Ku Nye massage treatments.
  • 3rd Year/ Level 3 The practitioner is competent in working therapeutically and remedially using advanced diagnostic techniques.

A Ku Nye Kan is competent in all areas of Ku Nye. Consultations may include pulse, urine and dream analysis, dietary and lifestyle advice with emphasis placed on client's awareness of the causal nature of presenting conditions and the development of a treatment plan to overcome them.

As in all massage modalities practitioners vary depending in their training, experience, specialisation and expertise. Some practitioners specialise in relaxation or therapeutic massage (Ku therapist). Others treat remedially using advance soft tissue techniques and external therapies available in which they have been trained to treat the presenting acute and chronic conditions (Nye therapist). See biographies to contact a Ku Nye therapist who best suits your needs.

Further notes concerning Ku Nye treatments:

Ku Nye treatments take into consideration what is occurring both within the body and in the mind because both effect our essential vitality and well being. Practitioners will assist you understanding their dependent relationship (including their relationship to the environment) to bring about a deeper sense of relaxation and calm. As such and in addition to treating the physical or outward symptom clusters, a practitioner may advise breathing, relaxation techniques or meditation to help restore overall balance.

n.b The study of the mind aspect is complex but generally broken down in 5 aggregates (mind+body)

  • Vinyana - Mind
  • Vedhana -  Feelings (emotions & 5 senses)
  • Sankhara - Mental perceptions of self (self images/self perceptions)
